In a sudden twist of events, Mexican president ‘Enrique Peña Nieto’ has confirmed the news on Friday afternoon that notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín Guzman Loera, AKA ‘El Chapo, has been captured.
Whilst not much is known at this time, the Mexican president Tweeted the following, translated from Spanish:
“Mission accomplished: We have him. I want to inform the Mexicans that Joaquín Guzman Loera has been detained.”
Guzman has been called “the most powerful drug trafficker in the world” by the U.S Department of the Treasury, and for three years was ranked as one of the most powerful people in the world by Forbes magazine.
‘El Chapo’ famously escaped the Altiplano Prison near Mexico City on July 11th 2015 and has been hunted ever since. He reportedly set a $100,000,000 bounty on Donald Trump whilst on the run, following with a direct statement saying he “vows to make Donald Trump swallow his words”.
