On the 17th May 2016, tens of thousands of year 11 students across the country took part in their biology exam paper, formulated by the exam board ‘AQA’.
They revised for three years, countless nights and an unimaginable amount of revision classes…to be faced with a “business exam”.
Teens were left outraged when the biology paper asked “What is an independent company”, a question with no obvious or clear link to anything in biology.
As expected, the social media backlash was intense, with the following tweets topping our favourites:
Controversy was also sparked surrounding a question that “promoted underaged drinking”, printing a direct response from an AQA spokesperson who states that there was “nothing wrong with the paper” to The Huffington Post.
So what IS an independent company?
Not a biology question.
